Sedation Dentist in Destin, FL

Fear of visiting the dentist is quite common.  There are many people who would prefer to live in discomfort and pain instead of visiting the dentist for treatment.

Luckily, with recent technological advancements and sedation dentistry in Destin, it is now possible to decrease your nervousness.  With sedation dentistry, you have the option to be entirely at ease when you’re in the dental chair!

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry refers to dental procedures where the patient is sedated using various methods to ensure a quick and pain-free dental procedure.  Sedation can range from a minimal level of sedation to oral conscious sedation which provides a stronger level of sedation.  Dr. Corley well help you choose the right level of sedation for your visit.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

There are several different types of Sedation Dentistry that can be used during your visit.

  1. Oral Sedation – Oral Sedation involves the use of an oral sedative pill to reduce anxiety. Oral Sedation is more suitable for short-term dental procedures.
  2. Nitrous Sedation – Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is administered using a mask on the patient’s face. The use of nitrous sedation helps you to relax while remaining co-operative.  Nitrous sedation is preferred for mild to moderate anxieties and wears off quickly so you can resume your activities shortly after the procedure.
  3. Non -IV Conscious Sedation –  Oral Conscious Sedation, provides a stronger level of sedation than Nitrous Oxide. Many patients prefer to use non – IV conscious sedation for the deeper relaxation it provides.  Though you are still able to stand, walk, or answer questions, you remain in a calm and drowsy state throughout the treatment. With non – IV conscious sedation, many patients have found they have little memory of the procedure after the fact. For patients with dental anxiety, this can be a great benefit.

Dental anxiety should not prevent anyone from having a perfect, healthy smile.  Contact Emerald Coast Dental to learn more about sedation dentistry in Destin and how it can be used to make your dental treatments easier and more comfortable.
